The start of the high school summer classes, scheduled to begin tomorrow at East High School, has been postponed until Thursday, June 19. A new location for the program will be announced tomorrow. Approximately 950 students have registered for summer school.
The Des Moines Police Department will be temporarily moving some of their units to East High School starting tomorrow.
All other school district programs will be held as scheduled. This includes Metro Kids, preschools, the Downtown School, the Gifted & Talented program, driver education, the summer meal program, and other camps and activities being held at Des Moines Public School facilities.
However, changing conditions caused by flooding and the potential role schools will play to serve emergency needs for other local agencies may mean that summer programs are cancelled or moved.
Any changes will be distributed to the news media and posted at www.dmps.k12.ia.us and on Channel 12 as soon as they are known.
In addition to providing space for the Des Moines Police Department at East High, Des Moines Public Schools is providing the Des Moines Area Regional Transit authority with office and parking at Lincoln High School.
