The Downtown School, located at 5th and Grand, will be closed on Friday, June 13. Classes today will dismiss at their normal time of 3:15 pm. The following note is being sent home to parents from principal John Johnson:
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Thank you for your flexibility with our schedule changes this week. With bridge closures and the threat of additional flooding, the Downtown School will be closed tomorrow. Friday was already scheduled as a conference day. Conferences will be rescheduled for next Friday, June 20. There will be no classes held that day. Please remember that our school picnic is scheduled for Friday evening, June 20, from 5:00-8:00pm, at Raccoon Valley Park.
Bright Horizons will not be open at the Downtown School on Friday, June 13. Bright Horizons will offer emergency back-up childcare at the Uncle Sam’s Federal Child Care Center. If you need this service, please contact Kristen Meyers at 515-556-6417. There are a limited number of spaces available for tomorrow.
Because of the ongoing changes taking place (and expected to take place) over the next few days, the Des Moines School District has set up a dedicated web page on district-related flood information. It can be accessed directly at:
http://dmpsflood.blogspot.com/
In addition, there is a prominent link from the district's home page.
Any updates, scheduling changes, cancellations, moves, etc. will be posted on this site. Please use this site for the most recent district updates during this challenging time.
I sincerely appreciate your cooperation with these schedule changes.
Please stay safe!
Sincerely,
John Johnson
